Rep. Jasmine Crockett said she has “no idea” whether she will back James Talarico in November and declined an invitation to speak for him at the Texas Democratic Party convention, which she will also skip.
The break comes after Talarico defeated Crockett in the primary and reflects broader unease among some Black Democrats that their influence inside the party is being sidelined.
That refusal could blunt a Democratic attack line against Republicans, because Sen. John Cornyn also has not endorsed primary winner Ken Paxton in Texas’s Senate race.
Crockett said she is focusing on down-ballot contests instead, signaling she is withholding support from the top of the ticket as Texas Democrats try to unify after the primary.
