Lenovo Launches $73 Legion Y7MG Mouse With 8K Polling and 42,000 DPI

No—on most non-flagship PCs, an 8,000 Hz mouse polling rate usually does not “ruin” gaming, but it can create small performance penalties that often outweigh its real-world benefit. The technical gain from 8K is modest. Moving from 1,000 Hz to 8,000 Hz cuts the mouse report interval from 1 millisecond to 0.125 milliseconds. That is a measurable latency reduction, but in practice many players will barely notice it outside high-refresh competitive setups with very fast CPUs, high frame rates, and games that reward tiny aim corrections. The cost is CPU overhead. At 8,000 Hz, the mouse sends eight times more reports than at 1,000 Hz, and that increases input-processing load. On weaker or older processors, this can show up as lower frame rates, frame-time spikes, or stutter in some games, especially CPU-heavy esports titles. That is why Lenovo notes that a recent high-end PC is recommended to fully benefit from the Legion Y7MG’s 8K mode. For most users, the safer setting is 1,000 Hz or 4,000 Hz. Those modes still deliver very responsive input while reducing CPU strain and, in wireless mode, helping battery life. The difference from 4K to 8K is especially hard to justify unless the rest of the system is already top tier. So the issue is not that 8K is unusable on mainstream PCs; it is that the benefit is small and the downside can be real. On a non-flagship machine, dropping to 1K or 4K is often the better gaming experience.

Lenovo has started selling the Legion Y7MG in China for CNY 499, positioning the 59-gram gaming mouse as a lightweight magnesium-alloy alternative to honeycomb-shell rivals.
The mouse pairs a PAW3950 sensor with 50-42,000 DPI, 750 IPS tracking and 50G acceleration, while wired USB-C and 2.4 GHz modes both support up to 8,000 Hz polling.
Lenovo says that top-end polling setting works best with a recent high-end PC; the Y7MG also offers Bluetooth, a 500 mAh battery and RGB sync through Aurora software.
Hardware details include Kailh optical switches rated for 100 million clicks, a TTC dustproof gold encoder, an aluminum-alloy scroll wheel and large PTFE feet, but Lenovo has not announced an international release.
