Asus Unveils ROG Raikiri 2 Pro With 8,000Hz Polling and 79-Hour Battery

Q: Is the race to an 8,000 Hz polling rate a true gaming leap, or just a marketing ploy for elite players?

It is both a real technical gain and a marketing-heavy feature, with the practical value concentrated among elite PC players. ASUS’s ROG Raikiri II Pro shows why the claim is not empty. An 8,000 Hz polling rate cuts the controller’s reporting interval to 0.125 milliseconds, versus 1 millisecond at 1,000 Hz. That 0.875 ms reduction is measurable, and in top-level competitive play even sub-millisecond improvements can matter for timing, tracking consistency and rapid trigger inputs. In that sense, it is a genuine performance advance, especially when paired with the Raikiri II Pro’s micro-switch buttons, TMR anti-drift sticks and short-travel trigger mode. But the gains are also narrow. For most players, the difference between 1,000 Hz and 8,000 Hz will be hard to perceive because total input lag depends far more on the whole chain: game engine, CPU load, frame rate, monitor refresh rate and display latency. On a 60 Hz screen, for example, the display refresh interval is 16.7 ms, which dwarfs the polling-rate improvement. Even on PC, the benefit is most credible with a high-refresh monitor, strong hardware and a wired connection. That is why 8,000 Hz is best seen as a niche advantage rather than a mass-market leap. It is meaningful for esports-focused users chasing every edge, but for the broader audience, durability, stick-drift resistance, trigger flexibility, software tuning and wireless stability will likely matter more than the headline polling number.

Asus introduced the ROG Raikiri 2 Pro in China, nearly a year after the Raikiri 2 debut and almost three years after the original Pro model.
The PC-only controller adds an on-device full-color display for remapping, RGB, brightness and profile changes, alongside a redesigned D-pad, five backlit front buttons and a magnetic faceplate.
Performance upgrades include hot-swappable TMR thumbsticks, micro-switch buttons, two extra shoulder buttons, adjustable triggers and four removable back keys, with 8,000Hz polling in a major jump from 250Hz on the first Pro.
Battery life rises to 79 hours from 48 hours on the Raikiri Pro, and the package includes a charging dock, case, thumbstick modules, caps, back-button covers and a USB cable.
Price and release timing were not disclosed, leaving availability outside China unclear as Asus marks ROG's 20th anniversary with the launch.
