More than 300 yards of Interstate 70 near Silt and New Castle were buried Monday night by mud, water and debris up to 3 feet deep, closing both directions with no reopening estimate.
Torrential rain and hail that began around 7 p.m. triggered the slide, and CDOT said crews still face heavy material removal and drainage while detouring traffic onto U.S. 6.
Garfield County also closed parts of Peach Valley Road and County Road 262 after flash flooding sent swift water and logs across the roads.
