Jimmy Janicki tied the MCWS opener at 5-5 in the seventh, launching a solo shot for his 20th home run of the season.
West Virginia had moved ahead in the fourth after a back-and-forth start that produced runs in every half-inning after the first.
The game was already 4-4 through three innings, with Sean Smith homering for West Virginia and Troy answering with a three-run frame.
Armani Guzman also stole home for the tournament’s first run, his 39th steal of the year and a new single-season record.
