Police Identify 22-Year-Old William Schmidt in South Philadelphia Fatal Shooting

Summary
Philadelphia police on Sunday identified the victim as 22-year-old William Schmidt, who was shot once in the chest on the 1900 block of Durfor Street just after 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
Officers responding to reports of a person with a gun found Schmidt lying on the ground and took him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
Captain Christopher Bradshaw said the suspected shooter was last seen running east on Durfor Street from the scene, and no arrest was announced.
The Homicide Unit is investigating the killing near Schmidt’s South 20th Street home, after earlier reports indicated the shooting may have followed an attempted phone robbery.
