Police Hunt White Ford Van Driver After 75-Year-Old Dies in South Philadelphia Hit-and-Run

John McDermott, 75, was struck just after 10:30 p.m. Saturday on the 1100 block of South 11th Street and later died at a hospital, police said.
Police said a white Ford van lost control, crashed into a parked Chevrolet van, and that vehicle pinned McDermott against a Land Rover.
The driver briefly tried to help but ran down Latona Street when efforts to free McDermott failed; investigators towed the van and are seeking tips or video.
Neighbors said McDermott was walking home with groceries, heard a loud impact, and gathered to help as first responders worked to save him.
A memorial has grown at the intersection, with residents saying the South Philadelphia community has rallied together and hopes the driver turns themself in.
