Schutt’s Apple Mill is again selling its fried-cake ice cream sandwich for $1, while Wegmans is expanding limited-edition flavors and adding a discount on four-doughnut purchases.
National chains are joining in locally: Dunkin’ is offering a free classic doughnut with any beverage purchase, and Tim Hortons is giving rewards members one free classic or specialty doughnut daily through June 7.
The event falls on the first Friday in June, a tradition launched by The Salvation Army in 1938 to honor World War I “Donut Lassies” who served troops in France.
