Trump Resumes Iran Strikes and Slaps 50% Canada Tariffs as Gas Tops $4 Again

Gasoline climbed back above $4 a gallon after Trump resumed major US attacks on Iran, with renewed fighting helping push oil to $100 a barrel and reviving inflation fears.
A 50% tariff on most Canadian imports took effect Monday, followed Thursday by new levies on dozens of countries, adding fresh cost pressures even after a court ruling had eased part of Trump’s earlier trade war.
Inflation was last running at 3.5%, and Democrats estimate tariffs cost the average family about $1,745 from February 2025 to January 2026; farmers are also being hit by retaliatory tariffs and higher fuel and fertilizer costs.
Republican unease is growing ahead of the midterms: a new poll found only 37% of self-identified MAGA voters say the Iran war is worth the economic cost, down from 50% in early May.
Trump also let a bipartisan housing bill become law without signing it, denying Republicans a chance to showcase what lawmakers called Congress’s biggest housing measure since 1990.
