Summary
$1,285,628 in U.S. Labor Department funding will let SLATE expand YouthBuild in St. Louis for 60 people ages 16 to 24 who are out of school.
Participants will split time between earning a high school diploma or HiSET, occupational training and community service, aiming to move into family-sustaining jobs.
The grant broadens training through a Construction Plus model, adding NCCER construction credentials via Ranken Technical College and CDL-A preparation for transportation careers.
A new element embeds AI literacy into the construction curriculum, while partnerships with the Mid-America Carpenters Regional Council and Apprenticeship Missouri link graduates to apprenticeships.
After completion, the program will provide 12 months of follow-up support including career coaching, job placement help, transportation assistance and financial literacy services.
