iOS 27 adds a new Photos app option that saves the currently displayed video frame as a separate photo in the user’s library.
The feature sits under the three-dot menu while viewing a video and is meant to replace screenshots with a higher-resolution, properly cropped still image.
Apple already lets iPhone users capture a still during live video recording, so the update closes a long-standing gap for videos that were already saved.
The change is part of a broader Photos refresh in iOS 27 and targets a common use case of pulling a single moment from recorded video.
