Android 17 Expands iPhone Switching With eSIM Transfers as EU DMA Forces Native Portability

Android 17 adds a built-in wireless iPhone-to-Android migration flow that now moves Google Accounts, passwords, Wi-Fi credentials and eSIMs, alongside photos, videos, contacts, messages and calendars.
iPhones need iOS 26.3 or later for the transfer, which runs natively during device setup rather than through a separate app.
The change stems from the EU Digital Markets Act, which requires Apple and Google to offer app-free data portability and simpler eSIM transfers to reduce operating-system lock-in.
Since June, Google has been rolling the feature out to select Pixel phones, and it is also coming to Samsung's new Galaxy Z Flip8 and Z Fold8.
