Because Samsung appears to be prioritizing safety, battery longevity and thermal control over headline charging speeds, even though the Z Flip 8’s new silicon-carbon battery can theoretically charge faster. The key upgrade in the Flip 8 is energy density: silicon-carbon anodes let Samsung fit a larger 4,300mAh battery into a very compact foldable body. But that chemistry is harder to manage under aggressive fast charging. Silicon expands significantly during charging, which can increase mechanical stress, heat, electrode wear and long-term degradation if pushed too hard. Faster charging also raises the risk of swelling and unstable battery behavior over time. That matters more in a flip phone, where space for cooling hardware is limited by the hinge, dual-body layout and thin chassis. In that design, Samsung has less room than slab-phone rivals to dissipate heat safely at 45W, 80W or higher. Samsung’s broader strategy also helps explain the decision. The company has long taken a conservative approach to charging after past battery failures, and it has consistently favored durability and reliability over peak wattage. The searched material notes that Samsung is still cautious with emerging battery technologies and tends to validate them extensively before unlocking more aggressive charging profiles. So the battery tech is “revolutionary” mainly because it boosts capacity in a small foldable, not because Samsung is willing to exploit its maximum charging potential.

The flip phone runs Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 with 12GB RAM and 256GB or 512GB storage, though some markets will get Samsung’s Exynos 2600 instead.
Key omissions temper the upgrade: charging remains 25W wired and 15W wireless, and the inner 6.5-inch display lacks the anti-reflective coating added to the Fold 8 line.
The camera hardware also carries over again — a 50MP main and 12MP ultrawide — leaving software additions like Horizontal Lock stabilization and FlipShot to do most of the work.
ZDNET’s hands-on verdict called the Z Flip 8 the least exciting of Samsung’s three new foldables, framing it as a polished but incremental update over the Flip 7.
