Opened in March, the 145km Camino Dubrovnik–Međugorje gives visitors a seven-stage walking route from Dubrovnik to Bosnia and Herzegovina's pilgrimage hub of Međugorje.
Dubrovnik designed the trail under its "Respect the City" plan to pull travelers beyond the packed Old Town and spread tourism into rural areas and lesser-known heritage sites.
About 61km runs through Dubrovnik-Neretva County, following historic trade and pilgrimage paths past the 1438 aqueduct, Mount Srđ and Fort Imperial before continuing through villages including Orašac and Slano.
The project responds to years of overtourism pressure in Dubrovnik, where Unesco warned in 2019 that heavy cruise and bus traffic threatened the World Heritage site and Old Town residency has fallen to about 700.
