Daniel Sean James, 46, appeared at the Old Bailey charged with murdering Kirandeep Kaur, 24, as well as attempted murder and possession of a blade after the 12 July attack in Hayes.
Police say Kaur was stabbed to death in her home on Uxbridge Road in the early hours while she was in bed with her husband and baby; James allegedly fled by jumping from a window and broke both ankles.
Judge Nigel Lickley KC remanded James in custody and set a plea hearing for 1 October.
Kaur had moved from Punjab to London in September 2024 to study and work, and her family in India said she supported them financially and now want her body returned for a funeral in their village.
Vigils were held on Friday and Saturday by the local Sikh community as her sister said the family wants justice and hopes no other family faces a similar loss.
