July 9 brought Netflix’s new eight-episode “Little House on the Prairie,” and the streamer had already ordered a second season by the time the adaptation rolled out.
6.4 million views in its first four days helped lift the series to No. 3 on Netflix for the week of July 6-12, underscoring the quick renewal.
Season 1 adapts Wilder’s third novel and follows the Ingalls family’s move from Wisconsin to homestead in Kansas on Osage territory, with Wisconsin appearing only briefly in the opening.
The reboot also updates the story’s perspective by adding an Osage family and consulting with the Osage Nation, addressing long-running criticism of the books’ portrayal of Indigenous people.
