No. Halo’s move to PlayStation is a major break with Xbox tradition, but it does not mean Xbox console exclusives are over. The news around *Halo: Campaign Evolved* is significant because it is an Xbox first-party Halo release launching on PS5, PC and Xbox, with day-one Game Pass access and cross-platform co-op. That confirms Microsoft is willing to put even one of its signature franchises beyond its own hardware when it sees a business case. But the broader picture is more mixed than absolute. The additional reporting indicates Microsoft has also recently labeled some upcoming games, including *Gears of War: E-Day* and *Clockwork Revolution*, as full Xbox console exclusives rather than timed exclusives. That suggests Xbox is not abandoning exclusivity altogether; it is using it selectively. What has changed is the old rule that flagship Xbox series would automatically stay locked to Xbox consoles. That rule is clearly gone. July 28 is the full release date for Halo: Campaign Evolved, while Digital Premium and Collector’s Edition buyers can start playing on July 23.
Halo: CE has been rebuilt with HD visuals, enhanced cinematics, new weapons and vehicles, and a larger set of gameplay-modifying Skulls.
Three new Operation: METEORITE missions set in 2551 follow Master Chief and Avery Johnson boarding a Covenant research vessel above the glassed colony of Promise.
Thirteen text-based Terminals add new lore, including 343 Guilty Spark’s isolation on Alpha Halo and contact with 2401 Penitent Tangent.
Premium editions also include Troy Denning’s short story Hungry Buzzards, extending the new campaign’s setup ahead of launch.
