Michigan officials issued a statewide air quality alert for July 15, warning wildfire smoke will drive elevated PM2.5 levels across the state.
Smoke from blazes in Ontario and Minnesota is expected to reach the Upper Peninsula late July 14, spread into the northern Lower Peninsula overnight and push toward the Michigan-Indiana border by Wednesday evening.
AirNow forecasts especially unhealthy conditions in the Upper Peninsula, while EGLE said rapidly expanding fires north of Minnesota's Arrowhead ended Michigan's relatively smoke-free stretch in 2026.
Residents—especially children, seniors and people with heart or respiratory conditions—were urged to avoid strenuous outdoor activity and monitor local AQI through MiAir, AirNow or EnviroFlash alerts.
