Summary
Twelve newly confirmed cyclosporiasis infections since July 1 pushed Connecticut's 2026 total to 35, state health officials said Monday.
The intestinal illness is linked to food or water contaminated with the Cyclospora parasite; watery diarrhea is the most common symptom, usually starting within a week of exposure.
Twenty-two of the 35 cases were acquired in the United States, five internationally, and investigators are still tracing exposure sources for the remaining eight.
Connecticut had 19 cases at this point last year, while the illness has now been reported in 17 states; Michigan led the country with 1,562 cases as of July 10.
Health officials urged residents to wash produce, choose whole heads of lettuce over bagged salad mixes, and clean hands and kitchen surfaces to reduce risk.
