Summary
Much of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool was drained Monday, exposing dried sediment, algae and debris as crews worked on what Trump called damage to the watertight basin.
Trump said vandals made 300-yard slashes in the liner and that the pool would be refilled soon, extending earlier claims that had ranged from 250 feet to 350 feet.
CNN said its crew saw no obvious long gashes from outside the fenced site, while Interior, the Park Service and U.S. Park Police had not publicly detailed evidence from the drained pool.
The more than $14 million renovation ordered in April has already been hit by algae blooms, green water, a chipping bottom and vandalism allegations; at least four people charged over paint damage have pleaded not guilty.
