Summary
Steven Spielberg said he was saddened by Sam Neill’s death at 78 and called the actor “exceptionally collaborative” in bringing Dr. Alan Grant to life across the “Jurassic” films.
Spielberg said Neill’s earlier work in “Sleeping Dogs,” “My Brilliant Career,” “The Final Conflict” and “Dead Calm” led him to cast the New Zealand actor in 1993’s “Jurassic Park.”
Neill’s family said his death on Monday was sudden and unexpected, but added he had remained cancer-free after a 2022 diagnosis of stage 3 angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma.
Colin Trevorrow also paid tribute, calling Neill a soulful friend and collaborator, as remembrances widened for an actor whose five-decade career stretched from “The Piano” to “Peaky Blinders.”
