Meta Expands Louisiana Hyperion to 5GW, Lifting Investment Above $50 Billion

Meta said its Hyperion campus in Richland Parish will now be a 5GW data center costing more than $50 billion, making it the company's largest facility.
The expansion sharply raises the project's scale from the 2GW, $27 billion plan disclosed in October and from the original $10 billion estimate, as Meta races to add AI computing capacity.
A Meta spokesperson said Hyperion is expected to reach 2GW by 2030, though the company gave no completion date for the full 5GW buildout and named no new financing partner.
Louisiana helped court the project with a 20-year sales-tax exemption for data centers built before 2029, while Meta said it will cover its own energy and water costs.
Since construction began in December 2024, local businesses have received more than $1.6 billion in Meta contracts, and the company said it will spend over $1 billion on roads, water and wastewater upgrades.
