Reviewers broadly agree it cools fast and feels well designed. The trade-off is noise. Independent testing cited in reviews puts it around 77.5 to 80.3 dBA in boost mode, with some reviewers calling it “obnoxious” or too loud for shared indoor spaces. Even mid-to-high settings were described as conspicuous in offices, restaurants or public transit. That means the fan’s best performance is most practical outdoors, where ambient noise is already high. Battery life is the other clear compromise. Dyson says it lasts up to six hours on the lowest setting, but testing suggests runtime falls to roughly 50 minutes at top speed and around two hours on mid settings. For commuters, festivals or short outdoor trips, that may be acceptable. For all-day use away from a charger, it is a real limitation, especially at the speeds where the fan is most effective. So the flaws are not fatal to demand—its sell-out status shows many buyers accept them—but they are potentially fatal to value for some users. If you want maximum cooling in short bursts and care about design, the Dyson still makes sense. If you need quiet operation or long battery life, several cheaper rivals may be the better buy.
