Huawei Launches 5G Pura 90s Globally on July 14 as It Rebounds From 2019 US Sanctions

July 14 will mark Huawei’s global rollout of the Pura 90s series, with the Pro and Pro Max expected to bring 5G back to its overseas flagship lineup.
5G is the key shift because Huawei’s global phones had been limited to 4G after 2019 US sanctions cut off access to 5G-capable chipsets and Google Mobile Services.
The Pura 90s Pro Max has appeared in product databases as Huawei’s first global 5G phone in years, and a leaked video showed download speeds above 1,100Mbps.
The launch also points to a broader recovery: Huawei restored 5G in China with the Mate 60 Pro in 2023, but had not yet extended that capability to international buyers.
Huawei may also pair the new phones with Android 16-based EMUI 16, signaling a push to rebuild its premium smartphone position outside China.
