Q: Will Motorola finally offer the seven-year software support that its premium hardware and customers deserve?

Probably not—at least not by default for the Edge 70 Max unless Motorola explicitly says so at launch. The phone’s hardware clearly belongs in the flagship tier: a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, a large LTPO AMOLED display, a 7,100mAh battery, and an upgraded triple-camera system. That makes long software support a reasonable expectation, especially as Samsung and Google have made seven years the benchmark for premium Android phones. But Motorola’s record remains uneven. Historically, many Edge phones have received only two or three Android OS upgrades and roughly three to five years of security updates. Recent reporting suggests Motorola has begun offering seven-year support on a limited basis for select top-end models such as the Signature and Razr Fold, showing the company can match rivals when it chooses to. The problem is that this policy has not clearly extended across Motorola’s broader premium lineup. Other expensive Motorola devices, including some Razr and Edge models, have still launched with shorter commitments. That leaves uncertainty around the Edge 70 Max despite its flagship positioning. So the answer is that Motorola could offer seven years, but there is no solid evidence yet that the Edge 70 Max will get it. If Motorola wants this phone to be taken as a true long-term flagship, the company will need to announce a support policy on par with its best-supported premium devices—not rely on buyers to assume it.
