Summary
March 2026 brought Lufthansa Group’s “Business Light” to select long-haul routes, adding Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian, Brussels and Discover to a growing basic-business trend.
Those fares keep the core business-class seat and meal experience while removing or limiting perks that often include seat selection, baggage, lounge access, upgrades, changes and priority check-in.
Lufthansa’s version still includes lounge access, unlike many rivals; Delta’s Basic Business cuts lounge and premium check-in access, though it will keep both until Jan. 18, 2027.
The pricing gap can be narrow: Delta cited a basic business fare just 7% below standard, while a United Houston-Lima Polaris fare was only $100 cheaper.
United, Delta, Air France-KLM, Qatar, Emirates and others have embraced the model, which airlines pitch as cheaper access to premium cabins but critics see as further unbundling of once-inclusive fares.
