He is then believed to have boarded an 11 a.m. flight to Istanbul. Carney’s body was not found until about 1:30 p.m. that day, after her daughter raised the alarm around 1:20 p.m. That gap gave the suspect several hours to travel out of Kerry, reach the airport and leave the country before Gardaí were alerted and could intervene. At that stage there was no active murder investigation, no arrest warrant and no airport alert tied to the case, so there was nothing immediate to stop him from departing through normal transport channels. Gardaí later reconstructed the timeline through CCTV, transport records and phone analysis. The challenge now is legal as well as operational. Gardaí are working with Europol and Interpol to trace him in Turkey or beyond, but Irish law generally requires a charging decision or sentence before extradition can be formally pursued. That means investigators must build enough evidence quickly for the Director of Public Prosecutions to authorize the next step.
