A new AirPods guide says sound can often be improved without new hardware by checking buried iOS settings, ear-tip fit and basic maintenance rather than relying on one “best” preset.
Key fixes include keeping Mono Audio off, centering left-right balance, testing Headphone Accommodations and trying Vocal Range in Mild, Medium or Strong modes depending on whether you listen to speech or music.
AirPods Pro users are urged to run Apple’s ear-tip fit test, since a poor seal can weaken bass and active noise cancellation; cleaning speaker grilles can also restore volume and clarity over time.
The guide also points to app-level and source-quality checks—Apple Music EQ, higher streaming quality and comparing Dolby Atmos or personalized spatial audio with stereo when tracks sound oddly colored.
It stresses that no single setting suits everyone, and notes that enabling lossless in Apple Music does not make standard Bluetooth playback on AirPods truly lossless.
