Apple Delays 2026 Apple TV 4K Launch to Add Siri AI as iOS 27 Arrives in September

Q: Is the delayed, smarter Siri enough to justify the new Apple TV's premium price when it launches in September?

Probably not on Siri alone. If Apple prices the new Apple TV 4K above today’s already-premium level, a delayed smarter Siri by itself is a weak justification. Apple TV remains far more expensive than Roku, Fire TV and Google TV rivals, and voice assistants on streaming boxes are rarely the main reason people buy them. Siri also has baggage: on Apple TV it has historically been remote-based rather than hands-free, and Apple’s AI rollout has already slipped once. The stronger case is the full hardware package. A move from the A15 to an A17 Pro, A18 or A19 would bring a real performance jump, better gaming through hardware ray tracing, and likely more RAM for Apple Intelligence features. AV1 decoding matters too, because major streamers are increasingly using it to deliver similar quality at lower bitrates. Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and continued Thread/Matter hub support also add practical value for smart-home users. That means the value depends on the buyer. For households deep in Apple’s ecosystem, especially those using HomeKit, Matter, Apple Arcade and multiple Apple services, smarter Siri could be a meaningful upgrade when combined with faster hardware and better connectivity. For mainstream streaming buyers who mainly want Netflix, YouTube and Disney+, it is unlikely to justify a premium by itself when cheaper devices offer the same core apps. Apple will need Siri to be noticeably more useful in everyday TV tasks, not just more conversational, for the price to feel earned.

Apple is holding back its 2026 Apple TV 4K refresh until September, when iOS 27 is expected to ship with the delayed Siri AI features the device is meant to support.
Siri is the bottleneck: Apple had aimed to launch the upgraded assistant in spring 2026, but ongoing issues pushed Apple Intelligence-powered Siri into the iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 cycle.
The hardware itself is largely ready, with the biggest expected change a jump from the current A15 Bionic to at least an A17 Pro—bringing Apple Intelligence compatibility, faster performance, AV1 decoding and ray tracing.
Other likely upgrades include Wi-Fi 7 via Apple's N1 networking chip, Bluetooth 6, and continued Thread and Matter hub functions, while the exterior design is expected to remain essentially unchanged from the 2022 model.
The delay also affects Apple's broader home lineup, with a rumored home hub and new HomePod likewise waiting on Siri AI; a price cut now looks unlikely after June 2026 increases on the 2022 Apple TV and other devices.
