Q: The Switch 2 has impressive graphics, but did its choice of an LCD screen sacrifice too much quality?

Not necessarily, but it is the Switch 2’s clearest compromise. Nintendo’s 7.9-inch 1080p LCD gives the Switch 2 real strengths that matter for games like *Nintendo Switch Sports Resort* and *Splatoon Raiders*: a sharper image than older Switch models, a larger screen, up to 120Hz refresh, HDR support, and enough clarity to better show the system’s improved graphics. In docked mode, where the console can push up to 4K, the display choice matters less because players are using a TV. The trade-off is image quality versus OLED. Compared with the Switch OLED or Steam Deck OLED, the Switch 2’s LCD cannot match deep blacks, contrast, or the same “pop” in color. Several reviews also point to weak HDR impact and, more seriously, noticeable ghosting or motion blur on the launch panel. For players sensitive to smearing in fast motion, that is a meaningful drawback, especially in handheld play. Still, the sacrifice is not universally seen as excessive. Some reviewers said that after extended use, the LCD felt “just fine,” and that they stopped missing OLED as much as expected. The panel is generally considered a good LCD, just not a great display overall by premium handheld standards. So the answer depends on what you value. If you care most about resolution, screen size, and smooth performance, the LCD is an acceptable choice. If you prioritize contrast, black levels, and top-tier handheld image quality, Nintendo gave up too much.

July 23-26 attendees at San Diego Comic-Con will get one of the first U.S. hands-ons with Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, Nintendo’s newly announced Switch 2 title.
4 of the game’s 12 sports will be playable at The Pointe in the Hilton San Diego Bayfront, with a first-come, first-served queue starting at 9:30 a.m. PT.
Splatoon Raiders will also be playable at Nintendo’s Hall A booth #235 during its launch weekend, alongside friendly competitions, solo challenges and other convention activities.
July 23 visitors who have already tried Switch Sports Resort can be randomly selected to compete on stage against social media creator The Rizzler; no prizes will be offered.
Nintendo is also extending the promotion beyond the convention floor with live gameplay screens on The Promenade and a Splatoon Raiders-branded trolley around downtown San Diego.
