$2,500 was transferred from a Montclair woman's Venmo credit account after a man took her phone for about a minute during a supposed donation payment, police said.
July 2 near The Crescent Parking Deck, the suspect approached her claiming to raise money for a basketball team, showed what he said was the team's website, then fled after returning the phone.
Police described the suspect as about 19 or 20, wearing a black shirt and black shorts, with twists or dreadlocks; the case remains under investigation.
Montclair police also reported a stolen 2026 ZHI ST1 scooter, a rummaged-through 2026 Porsche SUV and a July 4 criminal trespass arrest in incidents logged from June 30 to July 7.
