Summary
Federal prosecutors charged four men with stealing $529,220 from eight Connecticut ATMs and attempting a ninth theft in an alleged jackpotting scheme in August 2025.
Surveillance footage showed a repeated method: Alberto Jose Freites Arvilla allegedly opened the machines, Luis Jose Freites Arvilla acted as lookout, and the others took turns withdrawing cash over several hours.
The thefts hit Milford and Interstate 95 rest stops in Fairfield, Branford, Madison and Darien; an Ansonia ATM was spared when anti-theft software blocked the attempt.
Each defendant faces interstate transportation of stolen property and conspiracy charges, carrying maximum penalties of 10 years and five years in prison.
Jackpotting has been rising nationwide, with the FBI reporting more than 700 of 1,900 incidents since 2020 occurred in 2025, causing losses above $20 million.
