That matters, because compact systems with this level of CPU and GPU power have historically struggled with thermal buildup, throttling, or loud fan noise. The strongest evidence so far is encouraging rather than final. The additional review material says testing did not show excessive heat or unacceptable fan noise, suggesting the cooling system is doing its job under normal heavy use. That aligns with Asus’s broader push in recent ROG mini systems toward larger airflow paths, vapor-chamber-style cooling, and quieter sustained operation. Still, “solved” is too strong based on what is public today. There are no detailed independent thermal benchmarks yet showing long-session CPU and GPU temperatures, sustained clocks, or performance after extended gaming and rendering loads. The GR70 also uses laptop-class GPUs and an external 330W power brick, which helps thermal management but does not eliminate the limits of a very small chassis. So the early answer is that Asus has likely reduced the overheating problem substantially on the GR70, but whether it has fully solved it will depend on broader independent testing over long workloads.
