Summary
Valve has posted the files needed to install Windows 11 on Steam Machine hardware, letting owners replace SteamOS if they want broader desktop features or Windows-only games.
The release includes graphics, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and SD card reader drivers, but Wi-Fi is unavailable during setup, so installation requires a USB installer and an Ethernet connection.
Dual-boot is not ready because the SteamOS installer’s dual-boot wizard has not shipped yet, meaning a Windows install wipes the device’s storage and requires users to back up data first.
Valve said it still does not officially support Windows on Steam hardware, leaving troubleshooting largely to community forums even as it preserves the PC-style freedom to install another OS.
