Florida Couple Face 2 Felony Child-Neglect Counts After Leaving 2 Children Alone for 1 Hour

Monroe County deputies arrested Allison Cannella, 40, and Brian Cannella, 43, after hotel staff found two young children alone in nursery beds at a Key Largo resort room on Saturday.
Security footage, witness statements and other evidence indicated the children were unattended for about 40 minutes to one hour while the couple drank alcohol at the property's pool, investigators said.
Reefhouse Resort & Marina employees entered the room around 1:45 p.m. after an unattended baby cried for an extended period; authorities said neither child suffered serious injuries.
The Florida Department of Children and Families was notified, and the children were released to a family friend until child-welfare officials arrived.
Both Delray Beach residents were booked into the Monroe County Jail on two felony counts each, with a first court appearance scheduled for Sept. 1.
