The switch targeted “app creep” — seven services had quietly grown into a $1,073.16 yearly bill while still leaving them scrolling for 10 minutes to find something to watch.
The method pauses or cancels every service except an anchor app, then rotates to the next one after the watchlist is exhausted, with calendar reminders set before each renewal date.
Netflix, Disney+, DAZN and some smaller services offer pause options, while others such as Crave, Apple TV+ and Paramount+ generally require cancellation and later reactivation.
The writer said the tradeoff was minor — less real-time viewing but no sense of deprivation — because backlogs built up on each platform and even made ad-free tiers easier to justify.
