Bentley Names Torcal as 4th Model Line, Sets Sept. 23 Reveal

Q: With 400kW charging, is the Torcal a technological leap or a luxury EV too advanced for the world's current power grid?

Bentley’s 400kW claim is a technological leap, not a fantasy—but it is ahead of what most charging networks can reliably deliver today. The Torcal’s expected 800-volt architecture is the key enabler. Higher voltage cuts current for the same power, reducing heat and electrical losses and making very fast charging more practical. That is why premium EVs are moving this way, and why a 400kW peak is plausible on a Porsche-related platform. In real terms, that could mean roughly 10% to 80% charging in well under 20 minutes under ideal conditions. The limitation is not physics inside the car so much as infrastructure outside it. Public chargers capable of 350kW and above are expanding in Europe, North America and parts of Asia, and several networks are now installing 400kW-to-500kW hardware. But those sites are still the exception, not the norm. Many existing fast chargers top out below that, and actual charging speed also depends on battery temperature, state of charge, cabinet sharing, and local grid capacity. That does not mean the Torcal is “too advanced” for the grid. It means the car is arriving at the leading edge of a grid transition already underway. High-power charging hubs increasingly use smart load management, larger grid connections and, in some cases, onsite battery storage to smooth demand. So the Torcal is best seen as a flagship that will benefit most in premium charging corridors now, while helping push broader infrastructure upgrades over time.

Sept. 23, 2026 is the reveal date in London, with Bentley promising more details in the coming weeks as it builds toward the launch.
Torcal follows Bentley’s naming convention of drawing from landscapes—here El Torcal de Antequera in Spain—while also echoing “torquere,” the Latin root linked to torque and effortless progression.
Earlier reporting identified the Torcal as Bentley’s first EV SUV, smaller than the Bentayga and expected to share key underpinnings with Porsche’s Cayenne Electric.
