Apple Brings Siri AI to iPhone 15 Pro and Newer With iOS 27 Beta

Q: Has Apple's new hardware-exclusive Siri AI finally created the ultimate reason for a must-have upgrade?

Not yet for most users, but it is the strongest Apple-led upgrade case in years for people on unsupported devices. The new Siri is a real step-change from the old assistant. Early beta reports say it is faster, more accurate, and finally useful at handling chained requests, personal context, writing help, visual queries, and cross-app tasks inside Apple’s ecosystem. That matters because Siri has long lagged behind ChatGPT and Gemini, and Apple now offers a more integrated assistant that can search personal data on-device and send harder tasks to Private Cloud Compute. The catch is hardware. Core Siri AI requires an iPhone 15 Pro or newer, Apple silicon iPads and Macs, or the 2024 iPad mini. The most advanced on-device features, including more expressive voices and the best dictation, need at least 12GB of RAM, limiting them to higher-end devices such as the iPhone 17 Pro line, iPhone Air, newer Macs, and select iPads. So for someone on an iPhone 14 or older, this is a meaningful reason to upgrade. For someone already using an iPhone 15 Pro, 16, or an M-series iPad or Mac, the case for buying the very latest hardware is much weaker. There are also reasons for caution. Siri AI launches in beta, starts in English, and is not immediately available on iPhone and iPad in the EU or in China. Apple’s privacy claims around Private Cloud Compute remain under scrutiny from outside researchers. For now, Siri AI looks like a compelling upgrade driver, not yet a universal must-have.

iPhone 15 Pro and later models will get Apple’s upgraded Siri this fall with iOS 27, while the broader OS still supports devices back to the iPhone 11.
The new assistant is limited to Apple Intelligence-capable hardware, including Apple silicon iPads and Macs plus the 2024 iPad mini, and Apple says the initial release will arrive as an opt-in beta.
Siri now handles chained commands and more complex personal requests by drawing on notes, messages, emails and photos, using on-device Apple Foundation Models for speed and privacy.
Cloud-based Private Cloud Compute handles heavier prompts, while iPhone 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air models get a stronger on-device model for better speech recognition, dictation and more expressive voices.
The rollout closes a long delay after Apple’s earlier Siri promises, and raises new hardware questions as Apple says its most powerful on-device AI models need at least 12GB of RAM.
