Summary
Two new iOS 27 Apple Intelligence features will not run on the iPhone 18 and 18e because both models are expected to ship with 9GB of RAM.
12GB is the minimum memory needed for Apple’s latest on-device AI model, which powers more expressive Siri voice controls and a more accurate speech-to-text dictation system.
Ming-Chi Kuo said the 9GB setup is still an upgrade from the 8GB in the iPhone 17 and 17e, helping existing Apple Intelligence features run smoothly even as the new ones stay exclusive to higher-memory devices.
12GB is expected across the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max and foldable iPhone Ultra, due in September, while the iPhone 18, 18e and second-generation iPhone Air are reportedly slated for around March 2027.
RAM and NAND shortages have kept memory costs high, and analysts say the iPhone 18 and 18e could cost $100 to $200 more than their predecessors even without full access to those iOS 27 AI upgrades.
