Fulton County Jail records show Ciarre Campbell faces murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and a weapon charge in the death of his 71-year-old mother, and he waived his first court appearance Thursday.
Atlanta police also released the 911 call and mug shot after officers answering a Tuesday welfare check forced entry into a Buckhead townhome, found the woman dead and detained a man who had barricaded himself inside.
In the call, a family member said his brother, who suffers from schizophrenia, had driven off in their mother's car unusually and that neighbor surveillance video did not match his account.
Arrest warrants allege the victim's throat was cut with a knife, while police have not officially identified either the victim or suspect even as relatives named her as Nateal Campbell.
The Campbell family and the Baltimore Ravens, Calais Campbell's current team, asked for privacy as Atlanta police said the homicide investigation remains ongoing.
