Liberty County to Honor 2026 Youth Employment Graduates at July 2 Ceremony

At the June 18 budget meeting, District 2 Commissioner Justin Frasier asked for an extra $150,000 for youth development during approval of the county’s $71 million fiscal 2027 budget. Commissioners rejected the increase after county finance staff said the overall budget had already been cut by about $3.4 million from department requests and that the county was trying to remain fiscally responsible while avoiding a millage-rate increase. County officials also argued that youth services already receive substantial support beyond the small line item in the budget. Chief Financial Officer Samantha Richardson said Liberty County’s broader annual investment in youth programs is about $4.2 million when recreation, library services, 4-H, and Sheriff’s Office youth programs are included. The approved budget still contains $58,000 for summer internships and the Youth Commissioners program. The denial also reflected competing demands from other departments, including public safety and emergency services, which were also seeking more money. Some officials indicated that existing youth funding, along with grants and community support, was sufficient for now, especially since the request came late in the budget process and lacked room for easy reallocation.

Liberty County will hold a graduation ceremony at 10 a.m. on July 2 for students completing its 2026 Summer Youth Employment Program.
The event will take place at the Liberty County Performing Arts Center at 2140 E. Oglethorpe Highway and is open to families, supervisors, department heads, community leaders and residents.
The ceremony marks the end of the county’s summer employment initiative, which gives young people workplace experience and professional development opportunities.
