Summary
34,550 non-EU citizens were returned from EU countries to third countries in the first quarter of 2026, up 8.1% from a year earlier and 2.0% from the previous quarter.
108,475 people were ordered to leave an EU country in the same period, down 12.8% year on year and 7.9% quarter on quarter, showing removals rose even as new departure orders fell.
Germany recorded the most returns at 7,300, followed by France with 3,775 and Poland with 2,660; France issued the most leave orders at 34,880, ahead of Germany and Spain.
Türkiye accounted for the largest group returned at 3,555 people, while Algeria led among those ordered to leave with 11,105, ahead of Morocco and Syria.
