Hideaki Nishino told investors Sony will not set the PS6 launch date around Microsoft’s next Xbox, saying competitor moves are not the main driver.
Four factors will guide timing instead: technological advances, marketing considerations, regional dynamics and pricing, while long hardware lead times make short-notice alignment impractical.
Nishino said console launches often still converge because production cycles and surrounding technologies advance on similar schedules across the industry.
Microsoft publicly unveiled Project Helix in March, with reports pointing to a late-2027 or early-to-mid-2028 target, keeping pressure on Sony as PS6 timing draws more scrutiny.
