FAA Awards Air Space Intelligence $875 Million AI Contract for Air Traffic Control Modernization

$875 million over 12 years will fund Air Space Intelligence to lead the FAA’s SMART program, a broad push to modernize U.S. air traffic control with AI.
SMART is designed to predict delays, bottlenecks and other disruptions far in advance, giving controllers better tools to improve safety and system efficiency.
Air Space Intelligence beat other bidders including Palantir for the contract, according to an FAA official speaking anonymously.
A person familiar with the company said the technology would act like a new “central nervous system” for the national aerospace system, underscoring the scale of the overhaul.
