Sunday’s X posts saw Halsey unleash a scathing rebuttal after Anthony Fantano said his review of her 2024 album “The Great Impersonator” was more interesting than the record itself.
Fantano had called the album “the worst case of main character syndrome” on a review first shared to his 3 million subscribers more than a year ago, prompting Halsey to argue he mocked a work about medical suffering.
Halsey said she had “the excuse of going through chemo” while making the album, which drew on her lupus and T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder and nearly fatal health struggles.
She framed the clash as bigger than one bad review, saying Fantano’s comments reinforced women’s fears that speaking openly about serious illness will be dismissed as attention-seeking.
