Bangladesh Aus Rice Output Falls 3% to 27 Lakh Tonnes as Acreage and Yield Slip

27 lakh tonnes of Aus rice were harvested in Bangladesh in FY26, down from 27.9 lakh tonnes a year earlier, according to Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics data.
9.45 lakh hectares were planted to Aus, a 1.44% decline from 9.58 lakh hectares, while yield slipped 1.65% year on year to 2.865 tonnes per hectare.
Higher returns from other seasonal crops pushed farmers away from Aus cultivation, extending a gradual decline in both planted area and production.
Less than one-tenth of Bangladesh's annual rice output comes from Aus, limiting the crop's overall weight in national production even as the downtrend persists.
