Summary
A moped rider was struck and killed Saturday evening on Taft Bridge in Northwest Washington during a U.S. Park Police pursuit, with the body later seen covered by a white sheet in the middle of the bridge.
Witnesses said the pursued car was speeding on the sidewalk along Woodley Road before the chase reached the bridge, where one of the vehicles involved hit the rider and kept going.
The pursuit ended near Chinese Embassy staff housing when the fleeing car crashed into a diplomatic vehicle; a young man ran from the scene, other occupants emerged dazed, and 7News saw one person arrested and taken away by ambulance.
Bystanders described the chase as extremely dangerous, with one cyclist saying two cars blocked her path moments before the crash and likely kept her from being caught in it.
