It is best understood as a faithful remake, not an entirely new game. Ubisoft is keeping the foundation of 2013’s Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag intact: Edward Kenway remains the lead, the Caribbean setting and pirate fantasy are preserved, and the game is still framed as an action-adventure title rather than a full RPG reinvention. Developers have explicitly described Resynced as an “enhanced, faithful remake” aimed at modernizing the original without losing its identity. What makes the question more complicated is the scale of the overhaul. Ubisoft says missions were rebuilt from scratch in the latest Anvil engine, with major changes to combat, stealth, parkour, naval systems, world streaming, lighting, and quality-of-life features. The remake also adds roughly six hours of new content, including the eight-mission Blackbeard chapter “A World Without Gold,” expanded arcs for Stede Bonnet and crew members, new officers, optional Animus rifts, and revised mission design for tailing and assassination sequences. That means Resynced is far more ambitious than a remaster. It is technically rebuilt, narratively expanded, and mechanically modernized. But it is still anchored to the original game’s story, structure, protagonist, and core loop. So the most accurate answer is that it is a full remake with substantial new-game elements, rather than a wholly new title.

Eight new endgame quests titled "A World Without Gold" will expand Blackbeard's role in Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced, unlocking at the start of the final sequence.
