July 9 is the release date for Ubisoft’s first Assassin’s Creed remake, a from-scratch Black Flag rebuild with no reused 2013 code or assets.
Ubisoft is pricing the standard edition at $60 and a costume-packed special edition at $70, with launches set for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
Around six hours of new content are being added, including missions, recruitable ship officers, new cutscenes and an expanded endgame, while the 16km-by-16km world stays the same size but denser.
Modern-day segments, multiplayer and the Freedom Cry remake are out, while naval combat gets bigger waves, harsher weather, more destructible ships and new alt-fire options.
Ubisoft says Black Flag was chosen as a lower-risk project while teams build new entries such as Hexe, betting on one of the series’ most popular settings and characters.
