Trump and Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met on the G7 sidelines in France, with Gaza ceasefire efforts and the newly reached US-Iran agreement at the center of their talks.
Egypt used the meeting to welcome the US-Iran deal and press its case that resolving the Palestinian issue is essential to wider Middle East stability.
Cairo’s leverage comes from its role in Gaza diplomacy: it is involved in US- and UN-backed ceasefire planning, discussions over Hamas disarmament, and a possible international stabilization force.
Trump praised his decade-long ties with Sisi and said the two would also discuss trade, signaling a renewed White House focus on Egypt after attention had centered more heavily on Israel and Iran.
The talks also fit Egypt’s broader regional agenda, as Cairo seeks US backing on the Ethiopia dam dispute while remaining active on Sudan, Libya, the Red Sea and the Horn of Africa.
